Times of India news Tuesday March 13, 2018 page 6 announces Desert Safari in the heart of Delhi city zoo a concrete jungle in 5 acres area under master plan 2031.
I think it’s a heart breaking news of keeping and forcing animals and birds in captivity where millions will be spent to keep the following:
Blackbuck, nilgai, hog deer, palm civet, desert cat, porcupine, hare, python, sand boa, rat snake, peacock, quail, red jungle fowl etc.
It’s controversial and something to debate about, a very cruel scheme of things indeed.
I don’t know who plans all this and why.
Freedom of animals, birds, insects, fish is as important as that of all human beings, and I am sure you will all agree.
In 2015 I had gone to see or understand about a similar Safari somewhere near Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, and was not very happy at the condition of animals in the scorching summer sun.
Zoo, cage, or aquariums for fish or turtles, I don’t think these are very good ideas in the long run, and they should be best avoided, or dismantled in a slow phased manner, so that the animals, birds, or fish are able to adapt to their new found freedom, and they do not die in the process.
